Walter Williams

| A painter in oils of landscape and rural subjects, Walter Williams was a member of the famous Williams family of painters, the son of George Augustus Williams (1814-1901). He painted similar subjects to his father and uncles, and his work, often signed with initials, was characterised by an excellent understanding of light with a pleasing harmony of tone and good sense of distance. Walter Williams exhibited mainly at Suffolk Street, and also at the Royal Academy (1854-80) and the British Institution. He died in poverty in 1906. |
